SCRAP METAL DEALERS ACT 2013 (ENGLAND & WALES ONLY)

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 achieved Royal Assent on 28 February 2013 and its measures will start to be implemented with effect from 1 October 2013 when councils will begin to accept applications for new licences. The new Act repeals the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964 and Part 1 of the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001, creating a revised regulatory regime for the scrap metal recycling and vehicle dismantling industries in England and Wales.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE BENEFITS OF METAL RECYCLING

Scrap metal is one of the few commodities that can be recycled over and over again with any detrimental effect on quality. Metal recycling helps to protect the world’s resources and to cut on CO2 emissions. We all use metal in our everyday life and are in many instances dependant on it so it is important that we protect it.

HOW IT WORKS

The process is very simple. We buy ferrous and non ferrous metal scrap metal.Grade it on quality. Process it in into a form that is suitable for melting down. This is done by baling ,shearing or hot cutting. The processed products are sent to steel works or foundries in the UK and Worldwide. The scrap is made into sheet, plate beams, bars and rolls which goes to make white good, planes cars, brigdes, buildings etc. Once these products have reached the end of their useful life they are scrapped and the process starts all over again.
